Winter Dew Tour at Killington is a Wrap

by Pete Biolsi [January 30, 2012]

Winter Dew Tour at Killington is a WrapPro skiers and riders from around the globe descended on the slopes of Killington, Vt. to put on an epic show for Dew Tour fans. The four-day event was filled with fresh snow, top-level competition and a handful of personal and Dew Tour bests.

Iouri Podladtchikov picked up his first Winter Dew Tour win when he ousted reigning champ Louie Vito for the top seat. I-Pod, who was trailing Vito in points, blasted into the pipe with an assortment of big, stylish 1080s to score a 96.75. Vito had a chance to match and came close, upping his score from a 94.75 to a 95.25, but it proved to fall short. I-Pod now holds a two point lead in the chase for the Dew Cup.

Eric Willett blew away the competition with a stellar run in men's slopestyle, despite the variable conditions while light snow coated the course on Saturday. He went huge to finish out the run, throwing down a series of three back-to-back double corks.

ďYou just have to be comfortable with your riding and send it,Ē Willett said.

Two new Dew Tour records were set by the men of freeski.

Torin Yater-Wallace became the youngest athlete to win a Dew Tour final. The 16-year-old proved he could hang with the big boys, starting his run with a double cork 1260 mute and finishing with a switch 900 mute, instead of the 720 he had planned on throwing.

"I ended up stomping it and Iíve never done aswitch nine, so luckily I landed it. Iím so stoked. Iíve never podiumed at a Dew Tour and Iíve never gotten first at a pro event, so itís a good day for everything.Ē

Meanwhile in the slopestyle finals, Tom Wallisch earned the highest Winter Dew Tour freeski score ever, 95.25 and the top spot on the podium with his second run. Wallisch carries a 200 into the final stop of the tour.

The consistency award for the weekend went to Vermonter Devin Logan, who took home second in both ski superpipe and slopestyle events. Logan sits in second for the tour, just 10 points behind Maddie Bowman.

Winter Dew Cup will finish up at Snowbasin, Utah Feb. 9-12. For more info and videos visit allisports.com.
